Did you mean Sony H1U? And is the red on converter a 35mm adapter cause I never heard of it before. Go pros are pretty sick, I have one just never got around to using it before. What do you use for still cameras?

Yeah, it's the HVR-H1U. And it is a 35mm adapter on a panaonic camera. For still photos I use a Nikon D300.

Here's another edit of me trying the crane, it's turning out to be a lot harder to use than I first thought haha but I will get the hang of it before the skim season Cheesy. It still hasn't been balanced, and I haven't put on the monitor.

What is a good video camera for around 200? I go out to sandbars and stuff on my kayak so I can't get any thing too great because I don't want to drop it in the water?

With around a $200 budget I would suggest getting a GoPro camera. That way you can get it wet too.

I tested the HD version out this weekend and it's not too bad. I will post some video when I get a chance.

I am shooting with a panasonic dvx100b (it takes really nice clear footage but for those techie's its standard def). I just couldn't justify hd for what i do film skimboarding when one splash of water could pooch my camera in less then a second. I got a true fish lens, that really makes some shoots look epic and a decent tipod with a monfrotto head. I am stoked on my set up and would totally buy it all again.

DVX's are amazing camera's, and I will be purchasing a rain proof case asap, and in the future a full water proof house but those are 500$+ and after buying the FX I'm broke. I wouldn't have picked up a fx1000 if the only thing I was filming was skimboarding cause its not worth the risk, but since I'm going to be shooting short films, behind the scenes of multiple videos coming up, going to school for digital media arts, and different kinds of "contest"/company videos I really needed a near professional camera to compete.
Lynch what tripod to you recommend? I have been looking a manfrotto's fluid heads which is what I will probably be going with, but they are lot of cash for one to support my camera with accessories...  Roll Eyes

i bought the 501hdv head, its pretty sick has control for tilt and friction, etc. Its not fluid head though. I tried out the fluid heads and they are so sick, but they were just out of my budget and I am not really a tripod type of guy. I like to live dangerously with my equipment and get right in there since I have got to know blind filming really well. Anyway, then i just got some fairly cheap legs. Not saying i didn't spend like 600 dollars but over all it was a cheap set up compared to what you could get into.

Oh nice, the only fluid head I've used was with a Sony EX-3 and with those you definitely do need a fluid head, but I may get the 501 it seems legit and is well priced thanks. I am not worried about what kind of legs I have for a tripod I just need some that are steady and fairly strong and resistant to water and sand cause I know the tripod I have atm is dead from the sand and water build up  Undecided

basically the guys i talked to about legs suggest carbon fiber if you are serious about filming. they are super light and ghetto sand will not be a problem because the stuff doesn't rust and alot of the carbon legs can actually be fully disesembled for clean up easily. I didn't got that way because i have to deal with salt on top of water and sand. I just bought some decent legs for like 300, i like them not really that crucial to me though as i explained earlier.

Hmm Ill have to look into getting some carbon fiber legs, but only if I can find a good deal, right now the head is more important to me. Thanks for all the info btw!
